Not Every Summer Day Needs a Plan

Not Every Summer Day Needs a Plan

Learn Handball has created a five-week summer training program for players aged 9 to 16.

I'd like to say something that might sound a little strange coming from someone who has spent his whole life in handball.

Children don't need more organized activities this summer.

They need to be active.

There's a difference.

They need to chase a ball without a coach. They need to ride their bikes to a friend's house. They need to play football in the park, jump on a trampoline, swim, climb trees, and come up with things that aren't written in a calendar.

Some of the most important things children develop don't happen through organized training.

They happen through play.

Through curiosity.

Through their own initiative.

Through hours where adults don't decide everything.

At Learn Handball, we love handball. We love play. We love development.

And we know that varied physical activity helps children become better prepared—even for handball. It develops motor skills, can help reduce overuse injuries, and often creates a greater enjoyment of sport over time.

That's why I'm happy when I see a handball player playing football with friends.

Or when I see children organizing their own activities without adults standing there with a stopwatch and a whistle.

It's not wasted time.

It's development.

At the same time, we know that many children also enjoy getting together through handball during the summer holidays. That's why Learn Handball has created a five-week summer training program for players aged 9 to 16.

Not because every day needs to be filled.

But because we want to inspire activity, community, and the joy of movement.

Because, in the end, this isn't about handball.

It's about children looking forward to being active.

And there are few sounds better than children's laughter on a sports field.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer!

Best regards,
Bjarte Myrhol and Learn Handball
